Thropton Show 2023

I first met Mary and Ian when they visited my stand at Simonside Country Fair. They were both involved in organising Thropton Show and we chatted about some of the photos that appeared in my Showtime booklet.

Thropton Show is the show I always enjoy going to. It has such a lovely friendly atmosphere, there’s always something going on and I’ve taken so many photos, it’s just a great day out. So, it was lovely to hear from Mary and the very kind offer to sell my booklet at this year’s show. As emails crisscrossed, I suggested that it could be fun and interesting to take photos before, during and after the show this year. To put together a kind of collage of photos depicting the behind the scenes of the show and trying to show that it's hard work, but fun as well.

A few weeks later, I parked up and headed down towards the Thropton show field, as I’d done so many times before. I didn’t really know what or who to expect, it all felt a little bit daunting. I was hoping I’d be able to blend in, quite easy at my age and take quick, candid photos. Despite a bit of early and understandable reticence, including me, I felt I was quickly able to make progress and produce some pleasing work. So, I must thank Mary, Ian, Melanie, Emma, Hanna, Mick and the rest of the amazing team for the warmth, fun, laughter and general pointing that allowed me to relax and just take some photos.
