I’ve been working on a long term project based on the ancient landscape, primarily in Northumberland. There are rather a lot hillforts in Northumberland and I’ve visited quite a few of them, some many times. I’ve often passed by Humbleton hillfort on my way to somewhere else, after parking at Wooler, it became be my destination. There was a famous battle here, but all was peaceful, if a little breezy. Looking towards the North, a beautiful and ancient landscape, the hillforts of Monday Cleugh and Yeavering Bell can be seen, the former is on my list, the latter is one I’ve been to many times.
