I’ve been working on a long term project based on the ancient landscape, primarily in Northumberland. There are rather a lot hillforts in Northumberland, especially around Ingram and the Breamish Valley. It’s one of my favourite places, I visit regularly, often with ideas for photographs. On this occasion, I’d been photographing the Brough Law fell race (Brough Law is a large hillfort) and on my return, I stopped off at the Middle Dean hillfort for lunch. Feeling relaxed and peaceful after the mornings activities, I looked down the valley towards Ingram bathed in hazy sunshine and took one photograph, it was the one I was always meant to take here.
