When I can and when they’re open, I like to drive across the Otterburn ranges to Chew Green and the northern reaches of Northumberland and the River Coquet. Here I’ll walk through the Roman camp and pick up the Pennine Way along the border with Scotland. On this day I planned to cross the border and head down Dere Street to the hillfort at Woden Law. It was a bit of a gloomy start, but I sensed a break in the clouds and set up my camera looking across the debatable lands of Upper Coquetdale. It’s all to do with the border and grazing rights, they’re still debating it today. I took my only photo, the mist turned to drizzle and I debated my choice of camera, a large 6 x 9 Mamiya Super 23, but then I did it all again a week or so later.
